Our corporate responsability
Scapêche is attached to several producers' organisations, according to the trades of its boats: PMA (Union des Pêcheurs Manche Atlantique); OPOB (Organisation des Pêcheries de l'Ouest Bretagne); Cap SUD (Organisation de Producteurs du Cap Sud).

It also participates, among others:


  • In the professional representatives authorities: UAPF (Union des Armateurs à la Pêche de France) ANOP (Association Nationale des Organisations de Producteurs),and Local fishing committees (Lorient, le Guilvinec),
  • In the Grenelle de la Mer (Oceans Round Table),
  • In the national work of France AgriMer (Responsible fisheries, Ecolabel),
  • In the France Filière Pêche association (French Fishery Label),
  • In the Pôle Mer Bretagne, national competitivity cluster (subjects dealt with: energy saving, reducing the impact of fishing gear, improving selectivity, etc.),
  • In the ORCASAV programme (Keepnets for Patagonian toothfish fishing),
  • At professional conferences.

Scapêche is the preferred contact for educational professionals, particularly the Lycée Maritime d’Etel, Agrocampus Rennes and CCSTI Lorient.

Its heavy involvement in the dissemination of maritime culture and the promotion of best practice, with Cap L’Orient, was reflected during:

  • Operation "Open Port": guided tours of a boat in June 2010; repeated in 2011 with tours of the Pierre Jacques Matigny;
  • The « Pêcheurs du Monde » (World Fishermen) film festival in Lorient in 2010, with the showing of a film shot on the longliner Ile de la Réunion ;
  • Participation in numerous conferences.

Participating in the local economy


Scapêche is the last of Lorient's deep-sea fishing vessel owners. It provides nearly 50% of the volumes landed at the fishing port of Lorient.

Of the 74,000 private employees in the Lorient area more than 13,000 nowadays work within the maritime economy, including 3,000 employed by the 270 firms in the fishing sector. Scapêche is an important partner of the Lorient economy (10,000 metric tons sold by Scapêche in Lorient, for a total of 22,000 metric tons landed).

In April 2010, the Lorient firm Halieutis won a national sustainable development prize for a hake promotion project (a well-managed species which has experienced sales difficulties) called "Operation Lulu the Hake» for a local distribution network, mainly aimed at school canteens. The hake comes exclusively from Scapêche boats and is filleted in the port of Lorient and processed by Halieutis.
