Scapêche is the preferred contact for educational professionals, particularly the Lycée Maritime d’Etel, Agrocampus Rennes and CCSTI Lorient. Its heavy involvement in the dissemination of maritime culture and the promotion of best practice, with Cap L’Orient, was reflected during:
Participating in the local economyScapêche is the last of Lorient's deep-sea fishing vessel owners. It provides nearly 50% of the volumes landed at the fishing port of Lorient. Of the 74,000 private employees in the Lorient area more than 13,000 nowadays work within the maritime economy, including 3,000 employed by the 270 firms in the fishing sector. Scapêche is an important partner of the Lorient economy (10,000 metric tons sold by Scapêche in Lorient, for a total of 22,000 metric tons landed). In April 2010, the Lorient firm Halieutis won a national sustainable development prize for a hake promotion project (a well-managed species which has experienced sales difficulties) called "Operation Lulu the Hake» for a local distribution network, mainly aimed at school canteens. The hake comes exclusively from Scapêche boats and is filleted in the port of Lorient and processed by Halieutis. |
